The Amex Platinum covers up to $120 a year of an Uber One membership. The credit only fires when the card pays the membership fee (Uber).
Here is the trap. That same Platinum also drops $15 of Uber Cash into your Uber account every month. If any of that balance is sitting there when Uber bills you for Uber One, Uber spends the balance first and the card is never charged. No card charge means no credit, so you have paid for Uber One using a credit you already earned and thrown away a second credit worth $120.
- In your Amex account, open the benefits page and switch on the Uber One credit if it is not already on.
- In the Uber app, open Wallet and switch Uber Cash off.
- Subscribe to Uber One, or let it renew, with the Platinum as the payment method.
- Confirm the charge shows on your card statement rather than as Uber Cash spend.
- Switch Uber Cash back on afterwards so your monthly $15 still gets used on rides and food.
The catch. Step 5 matters. Uber Cash expires monthly, so leaving it switched off wastes $15 a month while you protect a $120 credit once a year. Set a reminder for renewal month rather than leaving the toggle off all year.
Where this works: Amex Platinum, up to $120 a year for Uber One, alongside the separate $15 a month of Uber Cash.
