One ChatGPT Business seat costs exactly what the new Amex credit pays

Amex added a $300 a year ChatGPT Business credit to two business cards in 2026. A single seat runs $25 a month, so one subscription uses the entire credit with nothing left over and nothing to remember monthly.

Amex added a credit worth up to $300 a year for ChatGPT Business in 2026, on both the Business Platinum and the Business Gold (Upgraded Points).

The useful detail is the arithmetic. One ChatGPT Business seat costs $25 a month, which is $300 a year. So a single subscription uses the whole credit exactly, with nothing left stranded and nothing to remember every month. Most credits Amex added in 2026 pay out in monthly pieces you have to keep spending; this one does not.

  1. Sign in to Amex, open the business card, and go to the benefits page.
  2. Switch on the ChatGPT Business credit. Do this before you buy anything.
  3. Buy a ChatGPT Business seat from OpenAI directly, paying with that card.
  4. Check your statement for the credit over the following weeks.

The catch. Switching the credit on has to happen first. Amex tags qualifying charges as they arrive, so a purchase you made before switching it on cannot be matched to the credit afterwards, and no phone call fixes that.

It must also be ChatGPT Business bought straight from OpenAI. A personal Plus plan does not qualify, and neither does buying through a reseller. The credit runs on the calendar year and resets January 1, so a subscription renewing in December uses one year's credit and the renewal after it uses the next.

Where this works: Amex Business Platinum and Amex Business Gold, up to $300 per calendar year.
