Already pay for Apple One? Take the Sapphire Reserve discount, not the free subscriptions

The Sapphire Reserve covers Apple TV+ and Apple Music, which is worth nothing if Apple One already includes both. There is a second option that takes about $15 a month off the Apple One bill instead.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve covers Apple TV+ and Apple Music. Taken as two free subscriptions that is worth about $250 a year, which is a good deal unless you already pay for Apple One, because Apple One already includes both.

There is a second option. Rather than starting free subscriptions you do not need, you can attach both credits to the Apple One plan you already pay for and take about $7.50 off each, so roughly $15 a month, or $180 a year (AwardWallet).

So the choice is: about $250 of subscriptions you may not want, or about $180 off a bill you are already paying. If you subscribe to Apple One, the second is the real money.

  1. In the Chase app, open your Sapphire Reserve and tap Benefits.
  2. Tap Apple TV+, then Activate. Apple opens and asks how to apply the credit.
  3. On that Apple screen choose to apply the credit to your existing subscription rather than starting a new one.
  4. Go back to the Chase app Benefits list and do the same for Apple Music, which is a separate credit and a separate activation.
  5. Check your next Apple bill for the lower amount.

The catch. People routinely activate one and forget the other, which halves the discount. If you pick the free-subscription route by mistake, Apple pauses the Apple One plan you pay for and restarts it if you later cancel, which is untidy but costs nothing.

Where this works: Chase Sapphire Reserve. Apple TV+ is worth $119.88 a year and Apple Music $131.88 a year, and both need activating.
